Although most users think of each Windows release as a single operating system, the truth is that it comes in several versions, aimed at different types of users. Now we are going to answer the question of which version of Windows is the best, so that you can decide which one should install, or choose a new appropriate computer.
Let’s take an example: Windows 10 offers several versions, such as Windows 10 Home, Windows 10 Pro, or Windows 10 Education. Almost everyone has the Home version installed, but that does not mean that it is the best, nor that there are no users with specific needs. Also, there are options to upgrade to a better version of Windows 10 easily.
A web page can block your Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 completely
So we are going to analyze which version of Windows is better, in which there may be a subjective component, but which is mainly based on the different characteristics between them. It is not a highly publicized topic, but it is worth knowing it to take better advantage of our operating system.
Windows 10 or Windows 7?
It is beyond the scope of this article to choose the best edition of Windows, something that we have already covered, but it is an issue that we must consider first. Obviously, there are many Windows released over the years, and it makes no sense to analyze dozens of versions that, in reality, do not represent a good alternative today.
So we are going to focus on the existing versions of Windows 10 and Windows 7, because they are the operating systems that users are currently considering. Windows XP is a real danger at the moment, as it no longer receives even security patches, while Windows Vista and Windows 8 have never quite convinced the majority of consumers.
WhatsApp for Windows 10, soon to download in the store
Windows 10 is the latest version, offers many unique features, and is generally more secure. Despite this, Windows 7 is still a reasonable option, which many users prefer, and some even keep it due to compatibility problems with certain programs. Also, Windows 7 will have security support for a few years to come. So let’s see which the best versions of these Windows are.
Windows 10, which version is best for me?
The world of Windows licenses is complex, but it has been simplified over time, especially for the end consumer. We are going to know the versions of Windows 10 to know which is better. We must bear in mind that they all allow downloading new languages for the system, in Windows 10 this possibility is no longer limited to certain versions. Here are the details:
Windows 10 Home: It is the basic version, suitable for the home user (although it will serve many professionals and companies), which brings the star features that have made Windows 10 so popular.
It is the one that most PC manufacturers include and, if nothing is clarified, it is usually understood that Windows 10 refers to this Home version.
Windows 10 Pro: has a professional orientation, and allows us to join a domain, something that is necessary to work in the network of many companies and organizations. It enables data encryption using Bitlocker, works on our computer remotely and makes it easier for us to create virtual machines to test other operating systems, a kind of virtual Windows that does not affect the rest of the system. Also, with the Pro version we can delay certain updates if we are not interested.
Windows 10 Enterprise
Adds advanced features for business, such as remote machine management and superior security. The Enterprise LTSB version doesn’t come with the talkative voice assistant Cortana, the Edge browser, or the Windows Store, and it doesn’t get updates, only security updates.
It is not easy to get an Enterprise license, they are only sold to companies from certain quantities, and through Microsoft partners.
Windows 10 Education: similar to the Enterprise version (but it does have Cortana), it is designed for educational organizations, as it allows remote management of student computers.
The Pro Education version excludes Cortana and the Windows Store. Again, it is not easy to get these licenses if we are not part of a college, institute or university.
Windows 10 S: The new Windows 10 S was introduced a short time ago, also oriented to education, but which will be easier to acquire by the average user.
Its novelty is that it only runs applications from the Windows Store, which increases its security, but greatly reduces the number of programs it lets us use.
Windows 10 Pro
The official price of Windows 10 Home amounts to 135 euros in Spain, while Windows 10 Pro costs 279 euros, although it is true that cheaper licenses can be found in alternative stores. PCs for the professional segment usually include the Pro version, but those designed for consumers (the majority) opt for Home.
Since the Enterprise and Education versions are designed for large organizations, it is clear that Windows 10 Pro is the best version. However, many users will not need it.
Perhaps the most critical issue is the option of being able to join a domain, which we will need to work in certain business networks. Bit locker’s extra security and remote login are helpful, but not differential.
Windows 10 S will not allow Google Chrome to be installed
To create virtual machines there are better solutions than Windows 10 (even free) and the option to delay operating system updates will only be interesting for certain user profiles.
So Windows 10 Pro is the best version, but many consumers do not need to pay more for it, and the Home version will be suitable.
